Get to know Michael Ross

Let me introduce myself, I’m Michael Ross an Agricultural Account Manager,  located at HRN’s Balbeggie depot.

Tell me your job role and where you’re based?

I have just recently joined the team at Balbeggie as the AG Account Manager.  This involves assisting in the purchase of new and used machinery. The added bonus of living within the Fife area is it will make it easier to connect with our customers and give them a personal and first-class service.

So, what did you do before and what made you want to join HRN?

I’ve been in sales for 17 years which involved working as an accounts manager for Virgin Media and running a branch of the biggest independent tile provider in Scotland. I wanted to join HRN after hearing positive reviews about the company and felt drawn to a career within the agricultural sector, taking inspiration from watching Clarkson’s Farm and seeing the impact the farming community has on the country.  The fact that my daughters love tractors and farms also played a part.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I’m most looking forward to getting out in the field, meeting and helping local businesses and farmers in my home district of Fife.  I know the importance of building relationships with our customers and bringing in new ones.  I’m hoping I can make a big contribution to an already highly successful company.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m a 36-year-old father of 3 from Fife.  Family is important to me, and my priority is working hard to provide and build a better life for them.   My partner and I love nothing more than a nice break in the countryside or in the sun – to get both is a bonus!!!  I play darts to the best of my ability in local competitions despite that ability lacking and enjoy watching boxing along with various other sports. Finally, I do love a game of poker and socialising on occasion.

You mentioned Clarkson’s farm earlier, what do you think has been the highlight of the show and why?

Honestly, for me, it was seeing how hard it was dealing with the councils and rules and regulations around farming that was a massive eye-opener. On the lighter side, Gerald was hilarious or as Gerald would say “rutdudufyxtxuj;itr fdxxutyudtriy gfduyfuiguody”

So, you like darts, who’s your favourite player we are just wondering if you’re a budding ‘Peter Wright’.

Right now, my favourite players are Peter Wright and Michael Smith, but my all-time favourites are Gary Anderson and Raymond Van Barneveld.

A little birdie tells me you are going to spend some time on a farm learning about all the equipment.

Absolutely come and visit me on my training days at the farm!
It’s great that HRN are invested in my learning and development and the encouragement that I have received has been first-class.

So, there you have it readers, we will be doing a follow-up interview with Michael down on the farm…
