Get to know Dominic McGrandles

Tell us what your current role is with HRN and how long you have been with the company? 

My current role with HRN is Assistant Accountant – I have been with the company since September 2021. 

What did you do before you joined the finance team at HRN? 

I was an assistant accountant at another company in Stirling before I made the short journey over to HRN.

What was it that attracted you to the HRN job?

I liked that the company was committed to investment, not just as a business but also in the people they employ. Even at my initial interview, I was made to feel relaxed and welcomed and felt that my ideas and opinions were welcomed and encouraged.

Since joining what has been your most memorable moment? 

My most memorable work-related moment was getting the award for Support Staff Employee of the Quarter – this meant a lot as it encourages me in my day-to-day work, and it is always nice to be recognised.
My most memorable non-work-related moment was delivering a 10/10 karaoke performance at the last work night out – Simon Cowell, call me!

What is the best part about working in the Finance team and what are your hopes for the future at HRN? 

The best part is the people I work with – it is a good environment in the office. Also, the type of business we work for means there is never a quiet or dull day in the depot which I enjoy. I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I enjoy working in accounts! I am hoping to put to bed the belief that accountants are dull and boring. In the future, I hope I can keep contributing to HRN in a positive way. 

Tell us a little bit about yourself, something that we don’t know? 

I will be playing in the amateur Scottish Cup Final at Hampden next Wednesday, and I will be either celebrating or drowning my sorrows following this on my Stag Do at the end of the month! Lots of exciting times ahead!!!

When’s the big day and we’re not talking about your Hampden debut?

It’s the 8th of June 2024 – was sweating there in case I got that wrong.
